“Entry into the European Community was a grave mistake. A lot of people were fooled – I was one of them” Said Guest of Honour Lord Tebbit.
“At the Convention on the European Constitution the British Government put down 200 amendments. There is no reference to them in their White Paper.”David Heathcoat Amory MP, Conservative Party Representative on the Convention
“Sovereignty lies with the British people, not with those in Parliament who are conspiring to give it away. Unless a major British political party re-asserts the self governance of the British people a new
constitutional party will have to be brought into being” Rodney Atkinson and Norris McWhirter
A Luncheon was held at the English Speaking Union, Dartmouth House, London, to mark the laying of the 1993 constitutional treason charges by Rodney Atkinson and Norris McWhirter. Those present at the luncheon were the guest of honour Lord Tebbit, the former Chairman of the Conservative Party, Sir Alfred Sherman former Head of the Centre for Policy Studies and Foreign Policy Adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Norris McWhirter, the founder of the Guinness Book of Records and The Freedom Association, Rodney Atkinson, the former ministerial adviser and author of inter alia Treason at Maastricht, Europe’s Full Circle and Fascist Europe Rising, David Heathcoat Amory MP former Minister for Europe in the Major Government and one of the two British Representatives on the Convention on the European Constitution, Michael Holmes the former MEP who resigned as Leader of the UK Independence Party, Frederick Forsyth the author and leading figure in the cross party Congress for Democracy, Toby Horton, the Constituency Chairman for William Hague when he was party leader, the Earl of Dartmouth, a past candidate for the European Parliament whose family home was Dartmouth House, the home of the English Speaking Union, Roger Helmer MEP and Christopher Gill the former MP for Ludlow.
Extracts from Lord Tebbit’s speech:
“When Edward Heath lied to Parliament he assured us there were no weapons of mass destruction of our Constitution but subsequently we found out they were there alright”
“The euro-federalists always told us we might miss the train. But do we want to go where the train is going? I have now concluded that it is time to pull the communication cord, stop the train, go across the line and wait for the train which is going in the opposite direction”
“The European Union has been disastrous for Britain. But you do not need to swear to walk out today. You should say to yourself Is it right for Britain to engage itself in the European dream – or nightmare – which is planned by this constitution?”
“If you look at the opinion polls today more people say they want to leave the European Union than those who intend to vote Conservative at the next General Election. There might be a clue there somewhere”.
“There is nothing in the Constitution about an-opt out from the Euro. And since our get out is in the Treaty of Maastricht and the Treaty of Maastricht goes it will be up to Her Majesty’s Government to negotiate a new opt out – and what will we have to pay for that opt out?”
Extracts from David Heathcoat Amory’s speech:
“The Labour Government’s position on the European Constitution is that they have won – we have achieved all our negotiating aims already – we are home and dry there is no need to consult the people. This is a monstrous distortion of the truth”
“It cannot be the right of Government or politicians to give away the rights of the people. That would be the final betrayal. But that is what the Government is contemplating and without a popular vote of any kind”
Extracts from Rodney Atkinson’s speech
“The British Government has confirmed the truth of the treason charges by declaring it is patriotic to support the new Euro-state, thus accepting that the patria of the United Kingdom is no more. The European Treaty process was part of the decades-long destruction of British democracy by corporatism and the European Union. Today it is the anonymous and un-debated statutory instruments and Crown Prerogative at home, the regulations and directives of Europe and the corporatist powers of capital and labour which govern, not the British people.”
“All we need is a credible political party which believes in the sovereignty of the British people, the democratic rights of our parliament the historical protections of our Constitution and the Common Law and the integrity of our nation state. Is that too much to ask?”
Extracts from Norris McWhirter’s speech:
“Treason is defined in our Treason Acts in force which date back to 1351. It is treason to destroy what is described as our happy constitution. Next June we contemplate not just its destruction but its replacement by a superior and utterly alien European Constitution. We lost one million two hundred thousand lives repelling tyranny in the 20th century. If at times we feel like faltering in the struggle for our freedoms then we must reflect on the question “What did they die for?”
