As Pat Buchanan wrote: “It was President Bill Clinton who destroyed the independent US media when he permitted 90 percent of the US media to be concentrated in six mega-corporations that were in the entertainment and other businesses and not in the news business. This unprecedented concentration of media was against all American tradition and destroyed the reliance that our Founding Fathers placed on a free press to keep government accountable to the people.”
That dangerous aggregation of power of which Buchanan (the journalist and former White House Communications Director under Ronald Reagan) warned has produced the world wide threat posed today by the US corporate “Techs” who dominate through their digital platforms and social media so much political discourse, journalism and political censorship not only in the USA but across the world. The ultimate aggression by this corporatist hegemony against the democratic system and even nation states was the taking down of the accounts of the President of the United States – the “leader of the free world” now ridiculed by the countries whose authoritarian censoring totalitarianism now looks quite compatible with US internal politics!
Many countries have been fighting back – China with their ridicule and Russia, India, Australia, Hungary and Poland with legislation targeting US Tech power. The UK and France have introduced taxes on tech turnover as those corporations avoided taxes on profits and OECD countries are planning a more universal anti avoidance regime.
Poland, aware that social media companies have been attacking that country’s most basic religious and social values, are legislating to apply fines up to $13.5m for any form of ideological censorship. Like every other democrat in the world the Poles cannot accept commercial corporations acting as law makers, judge, jury and executioner as national legislatures stand idly by.
For the combat of incitement, obscene, violent or treasonous activities there are plenty of existing laws for which people must of course be prosecuted and defended in the courts. It is proof of the fundamentally fascist and totalitarian nature of these corporations and their far left ideological soulmates that such natural justice never occurs to them!
As Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said:
“We are now increasingly faced with practices we believed were left in the past. The censoring of free speech, once the domain of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, is now back, but in a new form, run by corporations, who silence those who think differently.”
As I pointed out in the last Freenations post the modern versions of the 1930s corporate allies of Nazism (whose obscenities the Poles suffered more than most) are indeed these American imperialist tech corporations.
Now let us look at the totalitarian censorship of the truth by one of the most powerful social media corporations – Twitter. When the New York Post on its Twitter account revealed the contents of Joe Biden’s son’s laptop revealing the Bidens’ intimate business connections in China, Twitter locked the account down. Senator Ted Cruz during a Senate hearing on Tech activities asked the Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey:
“Mr. Dorsey, who the hell elected you and put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report and what the American people are allowed to hear”
The former owner of the repair shop where Hunter Biden left his laptop (and repeatedly refused to pick it up) is suing Twitter for defaming him as a “Hacker”.
“Plaintiff is not a hacker and the information obtained from the computer does not constitute hacked materials because Plaintiff lawfully gained access to the computer, first with the permission of its owner, BIDEN, and then, after BIDEN failed to retrieve the recovered data despite Plaintiff’s requests, in accordance with the Mac Shop’s abandoned property policy,”
Needless to say when Donald Trump’s Tax affairs were leaked Twitter did not block the New York Times which revealed the leaked information!
DANGEROUS CENSORING OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION
Twitter also suspended the account of the Chinese virologist Dr Li-Meng Yan who asserted that the COVID 19 virus was man made in a Wuhan laboratory. This has been claimed by many eminent scientists including the Nobel Prize winner Professor Luc Montagnier and a recent extensive study by the Hamburg Professor Dr Roland Wiesendanger.
She had discovered a cover-up operation by the Chinese government to publicly deny the virus pandemic despite being aware of its presence.
“I decided to report this development to my supervisor, who is also a World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant. There was no response from the WHO and my supervisor. Everyone warned me that do not cross the line and keep silence or else I would be made to disappear,” she said.
Dr Yan subsequently fled to the USA where she came up against Twitter! She had not violated any Twitter rule – but of course her revelation did not coincide with the western leftist medical establishment or Chinese communist propaganda! And we know where Twitter stands! And the African communist and long time China ally who heads the WHO also knows his political place!
INDIA READY TO CRUSH TWITTER
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has threatened to remove Twitter from India for spreading misinformation on over 1,000 accounts about a farmers’ strike. A Twitter Executive could face 7 years in jail.
Twitter did at first blocked some 250 accounts in response to a legal notice by the government, citing objections based on public order but then restored the accounts, citing “insufficient justification” for continuing the suspension.
Then Twitter did another about turn and suspended 500 accounts but then said it would not block media companies journalists and politicians because that would (in their sickeningly hypocritical words given their removal of Trump in the USA) “violate their fundamental right to free expression under the Indian law”.
TWITTER BUSINESS
Twitter made a $1.4bn loss in 2020. It has only made one years profit since its foundation. In mid 2020 Twitter had daily activity of 186m tweets. Donald Trump’s Twitter followers numbered 88m – and they have certainly now gone!
Many are asking who supports all these losses. And why would a rational investor suffer years of losses? Maybe they are making a profit in other ways? In other words paying for political advantage.
Ted Cruz rightly laughed when Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said Twitter could not influence political votes. It is evident that some wealthy people or institutions think he can!
TWITTER CENSORSHIP
Twitter said its censorship of the president was based on how other people might read and interpret his words, specifically the question of ‘how [Trump’s tweets] are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter’. Trump’s comments ‘must be read’ in the broader context of how certain statements ‘can be mobilised by different audiences’.
Well we know how words by leading Democrats, BLM and ANTIFA were “read” – the devastation of US cities last summer bears witness to that. And yet there is no censorship of them, even though their words led to scores of (mostly black) deaths and the destruction of (mostly black) businesses. And even the left wing Washington Post accused Facebook of providing a platform for organisers of the march on Washington on January 6th.
These are dangerous times and there are no greater contributors to that danger, world wide, than the arrogant, censoring US Techs.
