It was Merkel who recently called the European Union “a community of fate in the globalised world” echoing, whether she knew it or not, the metaphysical “fate” so often called upon by the Nazis to justify their aggression.
In late April 2014 hundreds of Ukrainians in the western town of Lviv celebrated the foundation of the Nazi Waffen SS division “Galizien”.
Putin reflects the will of his people (and most of our people!) while the once democratic West now ignores constitutional law, stamps on descent, persecutes traditionalists, attacks Christianity and destroys the democratic nation states – all in the name of supranational bureaucracies and multinational corporate profit.
According to the Wall Street Journal, German exports to Russia from January to August this year have fallen by 16.6% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile the EU’s sanctions on Russia will knock 0.2% to 0.3% off EU growth this year and next. That means a lot of jobs! And all to punish a Russian President who is ludicrously accused of all the sins of the old soviet communism which he has thoroughly rejected.
Putin’s Russia is more Christian than the USA, Putin’s anti fascist credentials are impeccable (unlike the corporatist US Democrats whose history is one of appeasement and unlike the European Union in which foundation and early management leading Nazis and Fascists were prominent – see http://www.amazon.com/And-Into-The-Fire-ebook/dp/B00E68O9SG). Putin recognises the extreme dangers of islamic imperialism and their hatred of Christians and Jews and opposes the redefinition of marriage and the appeasement of the extreme elements in the homosexual lobby. At home Putin’s Russia is self sufficient in food and promotes small businesses while the UK and the EU tax such businesses to death. Putin promoted national sovereignty in the new Russian Federation constitution, applies low rates of tax and prohibits foul language and obscenity in the arts, the media and broadcasting.
In other words Putin reflects the will of his people (and most of our people!) while the once democratic West now ignores constitutional law, stamps on descent, persecutes traditionalists, attacks Christianity and destroys the democratic nation states – all in the name of supranational bureaucracies and multinational corporate profit.
Just as Obama justifies his interventions in Iraq and Syria as the defence of (very few) Americans on the ground so Germany also uses German blood as a pretext to meddle in the affairs of other states. In Rumania over a hundred million Euros was spent on promoting the cultural, economic and political interests of a mere 36,000 Germans living there. The funds transferred now run at Euro1.5m a year not least to finance the German language school system. This promotion of “Germanness” in Rumania has made the German mayor of Sibiu (called Hermannstadt by the Germans!) a front runner in Romania’s Presidential elections. Putin is concerned in Eastern Ukraine not with a few thousand but with millions of Russians and Russian speaking Ukrainians and by German and US standards he is entirely entitled to be.
When it comes to breaking up nation states the stench of German hypocrisy in Europe knows no bounds. In Ukraine they object to the secession of Russian areas while the major German Foreign Policy think tank the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP) tells Spain they should permit the secession of Catalonia (one of the richest areas of Spain) a move which will impoverish Spain and make its serious debt situation even worse. It was Merkel who recently called the European Union “a community of fate in the globalised world” echoing, whether she knew it or not, the metaphysical “fate” so often called upon by the Nazis to justify their aggression.
Addressing the United Nations the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said, with justified indignation:
“After they declared victory in the Cold War ….the US and the EU have opted to expand the geopolitical area that is under their control.… They did not heed our numerous warnings about violating the principles of the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act.”
“The Russian proposal to draft the European Security Treaty was rejected. The instantaneous switch of NATO to hostile rhetoric and the buildup of military infrastructure on Russia’s borders reveal the inability of the alliance to change its genetic code which it created during the Cold War”.
The Foreign Minister could equally have said that this process continued the illegal wars fought in the Balkans – equally illegal even under the terms of NATO’s own charter which had been established as a defensive alliance.
Vladimir Putin summed up, at the Valdai International Discussion Club on 24th October 2014 in Sochi, the unwise continuation of this aggression in the post cold war era:
“What we needed to do was to carry out a rational reconstruction and adapt it the new realities in the system of international relations. But the United States, having declared itself the winner of the Cold War, saw no need for this. Instead of establishing a new balance of power, essential for maintaining order and stability, they took steps that threw the system into sharp and deep imbalance. ……International law has been forced to retreat over and over by the onslaught of legal nihilism. Objectivity and justice have been sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. Arbitrary interpretations and biased assessments have replaced legal norms. At the same time, total control of the global mass media has made it possible when desired to portray white as black and black as white”
We in the UK know full well what “total solutions” “communities of fate” “single markets” and procrustean single currencies mean – the death of democracies, the imposition of unelected bureaucrats (in Greece and Italy by the EU) and economic collapse. As Putin observes:
…the search for global solutions often turned into an attempt to impose their own universal recipes. This group’s ambitions grew so big that they started presenting the policies …..as the view of the entire international community. The very notion of ‘national sovereignty’ became a relative value…
A once defensive force devoted to democratic nationhood has got drunk on its new found power. The USA which built NATO and defended the free nations of Europe is now an aggressive power seeking to overturn other free nations. Germany once devoted to re-establishing its own cultural and democratic polity in a United Germany now dominates Eastern and South Eastern Europe and seeks further expansion. The acquisition by both Germany and the USA of publishing, media and internet power on a supranational scale is perhaps even more important than military power today. As Putin rightly observes:
It is not for nothing that ‘big brother’ is spending billions of dollars on keeping the whole world, including its own closest allies, under surveillance.
The new hegemonies have extended their absolute convictions of their superiority to the Middle East and Africa, with disastrous results.
Instead of settling conflicts it leads to their escalation, instead of sovereign and stable states we see the growing spread of chaos, and instead of democracy there is support for a very dubious public ranging from open neo-fascists to Islamic radicals…..First there was the military operation in Iraq (where the US foolishly disbanded the whole army giving former commanders the incentive to fight for ISIL today – RA), then in Libya, which got pushed to the brink of falling apart. Why was Libya pushed into this situation? Today it is a country in danger of breaking apart and has become a training ground for terrorists. Only the current Egyptian leadership’s determination and wisdom saved this key Arab country from chaos and having extremists run rampant. (because they threw out the Obama supported fascists of the Muslim Brotherhood – RA).
In an interview published by the Telegraph on October 28th Mikail Gorbachev who bent over backwards to make the post Soviet transition in Germany and Europe a peaceful affair said:
“Today we need to admit there is a crisis in European and global politics…(the West) paid lip service to applauding Russia…but in deeds they did not consider it….I am referring primarily to NATO expansion, missile defence plans and the West’s actions in regions important to Russia – Yugoslavia, Iraq, Georgia and Ukraine.”
Gorbachev, who is half Russian half Ukrainian himself said: “The decision of the US and its allies to expand NATO to the East was made in 1993…I called this a big mistake from the beginning..and a violation of the spirit of the statements and assurances mad ego us in 1990.”
Since the illegal and violent putsch in Ukraine (partly led by street gangs of openly fascist provenance) against a Government elected in a process approved by the international community most Russians and Russian speaking Ukrainians in East Ukraine (the most industrially productive part of the country) sought the protection of their Russian homeland. Ukraine has been Russian for over 200 years and the “Land of the Rus” originated in the vicinity of Kiev. The Russians of the Crimea (the critical Russian port for its fleet) voted overwhelmingly to return to Russia in a process at least as justified under international law of self determination as the secession from Yugoslavia of Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (but without the massive ethnic cleansing (of Serbs) committed by those extreme Balkan nationalists who also harked back to their glory days under Nazi Europe!)
In late April 2014 hundreds of Ukrainians in the western town of Lviv celebrated the foundation of the Waffen SS division “Galizien”. Here as at other such celebrations of the Nazi past in Western Ukraine leading members of the fascist and anti semitic Swoboda party took part. Swoboda is part of the coalition now governing Ukraine – with the support of Western powers including the cameron Government.
German Europe has for decades used the power and threat of NATO to push Eastwards the boundaries of the European Union. Obama’s American Democratic Party has a history of supporting fascist movements in Europe with the scion of the Kennedy clan Joseph P Kennedy a leading supporter of the Hitler regime, while the Boston Democrats together with the Roman Catholic Church actively campaigned to stop the US entering the war against Hitler and Mussolini – both of whom had concluded major treaties with the Vatican in the 1930s.
While the USA spent some $5billion funding the overthrow of the elected Government of Ukraine and Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrat Party’s foundation spent years promoting German and EU interests in Ukraine, Russia tried to stick to its agreement with the West which would have allowed self determination by nation states by matching the end of the Warsaw Pact with the non expansion of NATO. But German Europe (originally praised by Gorbachev for its peaceful and non aggressive transition from the cold war) has returned to its historic mission to “push to the East”, courting European war in so doing.
Many in the US foreign, diplomatic and intelligence services have condemned their own Government for this aggressive expansion. Former US Ambassador to Moscow Jack Matlock said in an interview in March this year
the Russian people—most of them—feel there has been a pattern of American activity that has been hostile to Russia and has simply disregarded their national interests. They feel that having thrown off communism, having dispensed with the Soviet Empire, the U.S. systematically started expanding NATO to the east. In the Orange Revolution in Kiev, foreigners, including Americans, were very active in organizing people and inspiring them. Now, you know, I have to ask Americans: How would Occupy Wall Street have looked if you had foreigners out there leading them?
THE EU’S FRAMEWORK PARTICIPATION AGREEMENTS
While Russia consistently offered to its former satellites trade and cooperation agreements the European Union pursued a more aggressive integrationist policy through its so called “Framework Participation Agreements” – “framework” is derived from the German “Rahmen” meaning something more like “comprehensive”!
At its June 2014 summit the EU signed FPA’s with Georgia, Moldavia and Ukraine – all intimately within the Russian sphere of influence. The Agreements force those countries to gradually adapt themselves to the EU’s foreign and military policy. As German Foreign Policy points out, Ukraine is already contributing soldiers to EU battle groups, while Georgia has contributed 140 soldiers to the EU’s Central African Republic intervention force.
In the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, for example, the parties will seek to promote “gradual convergence” in the area of foreign and military policy. This, of course, does not mean that the EU will adapt its foreign and military policy to Georgia’s. The Parties shall, in particular, address issues of “crisis management, conflict prevention and regional stability.” This cooperation explicitly includes measures to “fight against terrorism” Georgia should particularly participate “in EU-led civilian and military crisis management operations as well as relevant exercises and training activities,” according to the Association Agreement. Identical stipulations can be found in the Association Agreements with Moldava and Ukraine. The latter also obliges the parties to “explore the potential of military-technological cooperation.” Kiev should therefore establish “close contacts” to the European Defense Agency (EDA).
Ukraine had participated in one of the EU’s battle groups in the first semester of 2011, which was repeated again in the first semester of this year. Its third battle group participation is scheduled for 2016. In January and February of this year, the Ukrainian Navy placed its frigate, the “Hetman Sahaydachniy,” at the disposal of the EU’s (EU NAVFOR Atalanta) intervention at the Horn of Africa, thereby, relieving other EU naval vessels.
The EU’s FPA cooperation partnerships have been extended far beyond the European continental borders. For example, the EU has finalized FPAs with Canada, Chile, New Zealand and – since last May – with South Korea. Australia, Brazil and – since last March – Columbia are in the process of negotiating an FPA agreement.
EXTREMISTS PROMINENT IN KIEV’S ELECTIONS
As the USA, the UK and the EU all attack the Russians in Eastern Ukraine for holding votes on the leadership of their new republics Donetsk and Lughansk (despite the civil destruction of homes, streets and businesses by the Kiev regime’s shelling) so it has become clear what kind of elections the rest of Ukraine held after the violent overthrow of their former democratically elected Government.
The German Foreign Policy website reports that after the elections ultra nationalist forces are on the ascendant. The parties who were backed by militias did well. And while Berlain praised the elections others pointed out that the vote was hardly ‘free” since armed gangs intimidated those who opposed them politically and there was a “climate of fear”.
US INTELLIGENCE SOURCES WARN OF ATTACKS ON RUSSIA
No wonder several long term veterans of the US Intelligence Services including William Binney former Technical Director, World Geopolitical and Military Analysis at the NSA wrote to Angela Merkel in late October 2014:
We the undersigned are longtime veterans of U.S. intelligence. We take the unusual step of writing this open letter to you to ensure that you have an opportunity to be briefed on our views prior to the NATO summit on September 4-5.
You need to know, for example, that accusations of a major Russian “invasion” of Ukraine appear not to be supported by reliable intelligence. Rather, the “intelligence” seems to be of the same dubious, politically “fixed” kind used 12 years ago to “justify” the U.S.-led attack on Iraq. We saw no credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq then; we see no credible evidence of a Russian invasion now. Twelve years ago, former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, mindful of the flimsiness of the evidence on Iraqi WMD, refused to join in the attack on Iraq.
While Merkel and the German Foreign Minister Steinmeier urge a more assertive German position in international affairs leading industrialists like Joe Kaeser of Siemens and former German Chancellors Gerhard Schroeder and Helmut Schmidt are worried about the aggression shown towards Russia. But the Americans carry on as if the cold war had never ended and historic German expansionists can hardly believe their luck!
