Instead of an unambiguous condemnation and immediate sympathy for Russians killed in the St Petersburg Metro, many mainstream media in the West suggested that the terrorist attack was a ‘response” to Russian crackdowns in Chechnya and Russian military actions in Syria. What a despicable attitude to take about an attack by Islamic extremists on European Christians.
7,000 Russian Islamists have in fact been in Syria, many are (as in the UK) returning with the ISIS aim of carrying on Holy War against the infidel. We know this in Britain. But did we – on seeing the deaths on Westminster Bridge last month – examine our actions in joining the USA in bringing the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Egypt, in destroying Libya, in the millions of refugees and hundreds of thousands of deaths in Syria and Iraq following our interventions there? NO – and (although such offerings of mitigation to terrorists would have been disgraceful as blood flowed on the Thames) they would have been far more justified than accusing Russia of being the part author of its own terrorist attacks.
One of the great corporatist manipulators of the public in the Mainstream Media, NEWSWEEK, even suggested that since terrorist attacks on Russia coincided with Putin’s (justifiable) increases in anti terrorist measures that the timing of the St Petersburg attacks were no “coincidence” !! Such buffoonery is like the claim that the US government and not Islamist terrorists destroyed the World Trade Centre – and they should therefore be assigned to the loony bin of world journalism.
While the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin was lit with the colours of the Union Jack after the tragedy in Westminster, by the US flag after the killings of 49 in Orlando Florida and again when there was a terrorist attack in Jerusalem, there was no such recognition of the horrific attack in St Petersburg – only one thousand miles North East of Berlin!!
In contrast Israel showed the Russian flag in recognition of the deaths in St Petersburg – as for instance on the facade of the Tel Aviv City Hall.
The people of Europe, unlike the self obsessed paranoid corporatist leftist “elites” in much of the western mainstream media, do not see Russia as a major threat. But they do recognise Islamic Jihad as a daily threat to their culture, the countries and their lives. They have not been attacked by Russia – but they have been murdered in buses, metros, on their holiday beeches and in office blocks by Islamist terror.
And they recognise when fellow Europeans, Christians – and in the case of the British long term Russian allies – are under attack. To politically exploit the deaths of Russians at the hands of Islamist terror represents a new low in western journalism.
