The award of the Nobel Prize to the European Union is crass, immoral and illegal under Nobel rules. The award follows a trail of disgraceful awards to sundry bigots and bombers who like Saul saw the light, became Paul and were “blessed” by the would-be God like rulers of world politics. The Peace Prize has been awarded to bombers like Gerry Adams, Yasser Arafat and Menachem Begin – consistent perhaps with the source of the fortune made by Alfred Nobel from guns and ammunition!
Thorbjorn Jagland, the chairman of the Nobel Committee, is also Secretary General of the Council of Europe, which dubiously shares the blue and yellow flag with the EU and works hand-in-glove with the EU. Jagland is a former Prime Minster of Norway and one of that country’s more fanatically supporters of the European Union – membership of which his wise countrymen have repeatedly rejected.
This award follows a pattern in recent times of one institution awarding prizes (originally meant for individuals) to other corporate bodies. A recent example was the award of an honorary degree by Newcastle University to the Jean Monnet Foundation (which promotes pro EU Chairs of learning at Universities). These collective unaccountable awards are pure corporatism – out of democratic control. No institution is more corporatist and out of democratic control than the European Union.
BUT SUCH AWARDS TO CORPORATE BODIES ARE ILLEGAL UNDER NOBEL PRIZE RULES.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, in accordance with the Will of Alfred Bernhard Nobel, (Paris, 27 November, 1895) has a specific responsibility to determine “the eligibility of candidates” before any award is made. Here is the relevant extract from the Nobel Will (for which I am grateful to the researches of Professor Michel Chossudovsky of the Centre for Research on Globalisation):
“The whole of my remaining realizable estate shall be dealt with in the following way: the capital, invested in safe securities by my executors, shall constitute a fund, the interest on which shall be annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind….
The said interest shall be divided into five equal parts, which shall be apportioned as follows: one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery or invention within the field of physics; one part to the person who shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement; one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine; one part to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction; and one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. … (The latter being the Peace Prize awarded to the European Union.
Needless to say the European Union dopes not qualify either under the definition of “a person” nor under their track record “during the previous year” which has seen violent upheaval, mass unemployment, a massive rise in suicides, the further destruction of national democracies and unrepayable indebtedness of member states. Nor does the EU qualify as having “done the most or best work for fraternity between nations” since it has been behind the destruction of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia and daily seks the “regionalisation” of nation states as a means of bypassing their national Governments. Throughout the EU mutual national hatreds rise, not least in Greece where Germans are justifiably associated with the destruction wrought by Nazis in the 1940s and the traditional alliance between France and Germany daily falls apart. With many EU member states engaged in war in Afghanistan and EU forces engaged in various parts of the world, they can hardly have done much for “the abolition or reduction in national armies”.
The European Union is responsible for the abolition of 27 national constitutions, 27 parliaments, 17 currencies and 17 Central Banks and a record decline in the share of world trade and wealth creation attributable to its members. There are over 25 million unemployed in the European Union and it has never been so detested by those who “benefit” from its institutions.
The award of the Nobel Prize is a sick joke – but all too typical of the decadence of the supranational anti democratic establishments which brought the EU into being.
