FOOTBALL – Nations? What Nations?

It should come as no surprise that an organisation which was designed to destroy the free nations of Europe and has already wiped out 25 Parliaments, 25 democratic Constitutions and more than a dozen Central Banks should have a similar view of national football teams.

UEFA (The Union of European Football Associations) ruled in April 2005 that in order to give young, national players in every country a “fair chance” to enter their country’s football teams, Football Clubs playing in the Champions League and the UEFA cup were to have a minimum number of national players. Under the rule, every team must have at least four home-grown players for the 2006-2007 season, and six for the 2007-2008 season. Finally, for the 2008-2009 season, every team should have eight native players, suggests the UEFA rule.

As we in England know to our cost the Arsenal and in particular Chelsea team have often had only one or two and indeed occasionally no English footballers! This is of course a long term danger for the national game since it is through major national teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle that the England team players are nurtured and matured into international players.

But now – not surprisingly since that was always the intention of EU laws – the European Parliament claims (probably rightly) that the new rule from UEFA could be incompatible with EU internal market laws and the principle of freedom of movement in the European Union. After all a football team is a business nowadays and you can’t tell a business it may not employ anyone who is a citizen of the EU!

“The proposed rule would indirectly discriminate [against] foreigners, making it more difficult for foreign players to transfer to a country where they were not trained and educated.” Said the EU Parliament.

Of course – that is what happens when you grow up in one country and want to go and work in another. Those who love their country know this and accept the problems and know where their ultimate loyalties lie. They, like drivers who accept petrol taxes or businesses which accept regulations, expect Governments to stop absolute freedom leading to the abolition of their cultures and nations. Naturally football teams, even those which are big businesses, represent towns and cities and their communities. Indeed those communities pay their wages, salaries and profits! Even the corporatists who run football are not proposing to call Manchester United “Coca Cola United” or Chelsea “Pepsi Town” withotu reference to a location.

But the supra-nationalist, corporatist EU recognises none of this. It recognises no nations – only the Euro-state. It recognises no communities – only multi-national businesses. It also long ago realised it could not achieve the abolition of nation states and their national pride (of which their football teams are the ultimate mass expression by the common man!) without deception.

The EU therefore designed apparently mild measures to “give people opportunities” to travel, “opportunities” to work, “the right to” pensions anywhere in the EU, the “convenience” of not exchanging currencies and the “right” to appeal to a European Court. They would do away with the “inconvenience” of national borders. And they knew that all these cleverly constructed “conveniences” would ultimately lead to the abolition of nation states, their passports, their currencies, their football teams (in any meaningful sense) their Courts, their laws etc etc.

But what they had to abolish above all else was the nation states’ democracies (that was easy, given the ignorance by MPs of what democracy is). But the democratic – and hence community and hence national spirit – is much stronger. With football they hit a raw, mass nerve, just as they do with Parliaments – eventually – when the people realise their “democratic representatives” have no more power. They stop voting for them.

Soon they will stop going to football matches. Then the revolution against the Euro-state will have arrived!
