The United States transformed the original NATO defensive constitution into its own professional warmonger whose aggression in the Balkans, North Africa and the Middle East were perfectly symbolized in the statement by Madeleine Albright that the killing of half a million children in the Iraq War of 2013-2017 – more than half the number who died in the American atomic bombing of Hiroshima – was “worth it”- Worth what? The preservation of US global dominance?1
Scott Ritter is an American patriot and a former UN Weapons Inspector and US Marines Intelligence Officer who has written extensively on NATO, Ukraine, Russia and the current global geopolitical situation. I was particularly struck by his recent description of NATO in a YouTube video interview as “a suicide pill for the world”.2 Ritter says that if the objective of Washington and its NATO allies (i.e., to destroy Russia) succeeds, the result will be a nuclear war and the destruction of the planet. That is why, he argues, every peace-loving person should be praying that Russia wins and defeats the agenda of NATO, whose war plans were sown by the US coup in Kiev in 2014 and America’s subsequent weaponising of Ukraine’s Neo-Nazi forces. Ritter potently reminds the world that Ukraine’s top military commander, Valery Zaluzhny, is a devotee of World War II Nazi collaborator and mass murderer Stepan Bandera, and that Zaluzhny is the man with whom Americans and Europeans are now collaborating in prosecuting their war plans against Russia. (see Rodney Atkinson’s devastating revelations about Zaluzhny and Ukrainian Nazism here: http://freenations.net/nato-tanks-for-ukrainian-nazism/ )
Swallowed by NATO itself
Fortunately for humanity, NATO has swallowed its own suicide pill and together with its US sponsor is subsequently facing its own demise.3 Washington’s use of the Alliance as a proxy warmonger to destroy Russia has massively backfired, throwing NATO into deeper trouble and chaos than ever before. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the present situation precisely, pointing to the grave blunder of US policy:
“If the US intention was to weaken Russia before confronting China, things aren’t working that way. Instead, the US is getting locked into a confrontation with Russia and the ties between the two big powers are at a breaking point. Russia expects the US to roll back NATO’s expansion, as promised to the Soviet leadership in 1989.”4
Logically, wrote Dr Ron Paul in December 2022, the option for the US at this point would be to disengage; but that would mean “the death knell for NATO” and the end of Washington’s transatlantic leadership (which after all is the whole purpose of the US aggression against Ukraine). Worse still, he said, major Western powers, including Germany, France and Italy, “may start looking for a modus vivendi with Russia”, for “Above all, how can NATO possibly survive without an ‘enemy’?”5
Ukraine to trigger ‘the ultimate end of NATO’?
Today, only a few months later, Dr Paul’s prediction has already come true. While the incompetent and treacherous British Government, led by globalism-devotee Rishi Sunak, continues in its NATO-adulating Russophobic folly, the three countries mentioned by Dr Paul, now joined by others, are turning against the Ukraine war and NATO itself.
France
A huge rally against France’s membership of NATO, protesting against the supply of weapons to Ukraine, rocked Paris on 12 February 2023. The crowd chanted slogans: “No planes, no tanks, no missiles for Ukraine”; “Let’s get out of NATO”; “Macron, we don’t want your war”; “No to World War III”. At one point during the event Florian Philippot, the head of the right-wing party Les Patriotes, got onto the stage, used scissors to cut the blue NATO flag in half to the cheers of the demonstrators, and declared: “NATO means war.”6
Italy
Thousands of protesters have swarmed the streets of Milan and Genoa against the US-NATO supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine. Italy’s antagonism to NATO has been rapidly increasing since 2022, when the right-wing Lega party’s leader Matteo Salvini, who has been one of Vladimir Putin’s strongest supporters, condemned the ‘invasion’ of Ukraine, as did also Giuseppe Conte, leader of the alt-left Five Star Movement. The Spectator correctly noted: “The Italian media’s default position is hostility to America and NATO.”7 The victory of Georgia Meloni, the far-right and Eurosceptic leader of the Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) party, sent shock waves through Europe and beyond. She will lead the first ever far-right nationalist government in Italy since Mussolini; but her pro-NATO and pro-Ukrainian sentiment may ironically, according to Crux Decode, erode Europe’s support for Ukraine and she is likely to be challenged by her coalition partner Salvini and become “a gift to Putin”.8
Germany
By far the greatest accelerator of NATO’s demise besides the formidable Vladimir Putin, however, is Germany, whose former Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht resigned after a succession of minor scandals, gaffes, military inexperience and her inability to understand the implications of the war in Ukraine for Germany’s armed forces, but especially because she and her boss Chancellor Olaf Scholz had been criticised by their NATO allies and the unsympathetic German media for doing too little and too late to support Ukraine.9 She was replaced by Boris Pistorius, who highlighted the fact that the Bundeswehr (the German Armed Forces) is understaffed and ill-equipped owing to decades of neglect by the Federal Government: “We have no armed forces that are capable of defending Germany against an offensive, brutally waged aggressive war.” This means of course, as the Natural News website points out, that the German Army is worthless to NATO.10 The same website calls it “a shadow of its former self […] incapable of defending the German people”. The website quotes the statement by the Commander and highest-ranking officer of the Bundeswehr, Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, that the 100 billion Euros pledged by Chancellor Scholz for the German Armed Forces would be “insufficient to ensure that the country’s armed forces are prepared for battle”, and adds a statement by Armin Papperger, the CEO of Rheinmetall and the country’s leading defence contractor, that the German government has given two cutting-edge air defence systems to Ukraine that were originally designed to safeguard Berlin.11
The overlooked role of Hungary in the undermining of NATO (and the EU)
It is abundantly clear that the Ukraine War is now the major accelerator towards the coming breakup of NATO and that the degree of strength of those countries which back Russia’s campaign of demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine will be predominant in the demise of Washington’s out-of-control global warmonger. As Ukrainian flags still fly across European capitals and Western tanks still come to Ukraine’s rescue, the former political and military support for Nazi warlord Zelensky is nevertheless significantly dwindling.
The role played by Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has become significant. He has urged Zelensky to “give up” and is openly questioning Ukraine’s viability as a sovereign state. His Government has lined the streets of Budapest with anti-sanctions posters, the Hungarian State Opera is staging a production of Sergei Prokofiev’s War and Peace, while several other European countries are ridiculously, indeed racially, banning Tchaikovsky and other great Russian cultural icons, as if these had anything whatsoever to do with the current conflict!
As Politico recognises,12 there is a seriously widening gulf between Orbán and the rest of his EU and NATO allies. He recently told an eclectic group of foreign conservative figures that the West is already “in a war with Russia” and that it has already succeeded in making Ukraine “an ungovernable wreck”. The American Conservative noted Orbán’s message that Vladimir Putin is winning, that Zelensky and NATO are losing, and that time is on Russia’s side. The Russian President has now described Ukraine as “the land of nobody”.13
