It is impossible to conceive of one political act which could have unleashed such a deluge of anti Western aggression throughout the world than the attack on the Ukraine by the Washington/London/Berlin troika. With one foolish, historically ignorant extension of European Union corporatism and German expansion the foolish three have stirred up a world wide storm which is attacking every financial, economic, political and industrial interest of the industrial democracies.
If there are three figures in the history of cold war Europe who can be said to have real expertise and experience in the geopolitics of today’s relations between the EU, the USA and Russia they are former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, the US foreign policy expert and Russia specialist George Kennan and the former US Foreign Secretary Henry Kissinger. Between them they have observed and analysed Russia and the West for some 80 years in war and peace. All have warned in stark terms about the extremely dangerous western attack on Russia through the undermining of Ukraine by Washington and Berlin.
That western and in particular BBC propaganda talk of Russian aggression when it is NATO’s arms and troops who have moved East, when billions of dollars of western funds have been used to buy the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian Government, when decades of German propaganda financed by its “political foundations” have mobilised some of the most obnoxious fascist gangs in Ukraine drawing inspiration from their 1940s Nazi collaborators and Ukrainian “Galizien” SS divisions. It is grotesque and unbelievable.
The Western Right wing has never grasped the corporatist and expansionist nature of German Europe and the ignorance and naivety of the US and UK Foreign Secretaries John Kerry and Philip Hammond make their blundering on the world stage extremely dangerous. The British and European Left has become so appeasing of modern fascists that they cannot even give a tiny reference to the Russian case. During the cold war the Left showed more than a little sympathy with Soviet communism but now that they are faced by a non communist, Christian Russia under a leader who grasps from his communist education the true nature of European fascism – now they attack the anti fascists and promote German imperialism.
So now we have the ludicrous sight of both left and right appeasing modern European Fascism and German expansionism and unable to grasp the historic ideological and geopolitical dangers to which Putin has rightly reacted.
Today it is Russia which is under siege, has seen its allies and satellites swallowed up by the NATO juggernaut and the free democratic nations which the West promised would arise in the East have instead had their constitutions and parliaments destroyed and been taken over by the corporatist fascist institutions of the expanding European Union. A glance at the map of today’s Russia surrounded by NATO bases makes the Washington/London/ Berlin tale of an aggressive expanding Putin look like the joke it is.
In 1989 just before the collapse of the Soviet Union Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia., East Germany, Estonia, Latvia (both with sizeable Russian populations) Lithuania and Poland were part of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.
Today Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia have been broken up with Croatia, Slovenia and Slovakia now part of the European Union and the move by Germany, the EU and (gradually) NATO into Ukraine has challenged Russia in its own back yard.
John F Kennedy took the world to the brink of nuclear war in 1962 over Soviet missiles in Cuba which was not part of the United States. Today Washington challenges Russia in Ukraine which has been part of Russia since the late 18th century. Kissinger, Gorbachev and Kennan all understand that the overthrow of the legitimate and democratically elected Ukrainian Government has already ensured grave financial and political repercussions around the world.
Henry Kissinger said recently:
We have to remember that Russia is an important part of the international system, and therefore useful in solving all sorts of other crises, for example in the agreement on nuclear proliferation with Iran or over Syria.
Perhaps the most obnoxious action has been an inaction – the refusal of European countries and the US to attend the 9th May 70 year anniversary of “Russia’s VE Day”. 20 million Russians died in the defeat of European Fascism and German imperialism, a far greater sacrifice than any other country. Without the Russians Hitler may well have triumphed.
Russia’s ambassador to the EU has attacked the boycott of this worthy commemoration, the “unseemly campaign” against Russia which “insults the memory of Soviet soldiers and of their own compatriots who fell in the battles against fascism”. Putin is right to say that there have been grotesque “attempts at distorting the events of that war.. to undermine Russia’s power and moral authority”. How similar such attacks are to the demonisation of the moral and democratic authority of those democratic nation states who resist takeover by the modern version of corporatist fascism – the European Union.
Today Russia is weak and under deliberate economic, military and political attack from Berlin, Washington and Brussels. Europe has indeed gone “Full Circle” (see my book on this theme advertised on this site) except that this time – as in so many matters – the Anglo Saxon world has turned its back on its anti-fascist war time allies (the Russians, the Serbs, the Czechs, the “non Vichy” French, the Greeks) and joined its enemies in recreating a Europe remarkably similar to that created by Hitler and Mussolini in 1941.
The world created by Kerry and Hammond, by Obama and Cameron is an extremely dangerous one. Because Russia has been unjustifiably demonised it has responded by reminding the naive modern western politician of its actual and potential influence in the world – which can be used to severely challenge western interests.
In Ukraine power has only been used to defend Russians on the ground – in what had always been their own country. But the decision of the Crimean population to overwhelmingly embrace Russia has naturally led Moscow to enhance the influence of its Black Sea fleet.
In Argentina, with its unstable and aggressive Government Russia has made a gesture (rather than a real threat) by supplying some ageing war planes and questioning British sovereignty over the Falklands.
In Cyprus and Greece the Russians are discussing funding of these bankrupt EU states in return for oil and gas licences, the purchase of assets and the use of ports.
China has made it quite clear that it will fund Greece and will support Russia politically and has Russian support in its establishment of the new Asian Infrastucture Investment Bank as a potential rival to the US dominated World Bank. 57 nations have now joined the AIIB. When US ally Taiwan wanted to join the bank they were refused. Russia and China have signed major energy and industrial supply contracts. China has offered Russian banks access to Chinese credits and the beginnings of a Chinese Russian challenge to western banking power is evident as China helps Russia to replace the SWIFT bank transfer system. Putin was received as guest of honour at the APEC conference as the US and EU stepped up their sanctions against Russia and the two countries are now engaged in regular joint military exercises.
Iran: Russia is to start delivering the S-300 anti missile system – having previously voluntarily fallen in with Western sanctions. An oil-for-goods swap is also planned.
In the Baltic States Russia – having been falsely accused by the West of fomenting insurrection among Russian minorities in other countries – has said, understandably that a) it has no intention of so doing but b) it will defend those populations from discrimination of the kind inflicted on Russians in Eastern Ukraine.
In the UK whose counter terrorism agencies have their hands full in the fight against Islamic imperialism and terrorism, the Russian spy network has been rejuvenated and presents a threat which the western aggression in Ukraine has caused.
In Libya, Syria and Egypt where the dangerous Obama policy of overturning strong governments in favour of Islamists like the extreme Muslim Brotherhood (origins in the admiration of Nazi Germany! but today highly influential inside the Obama White House) the Russians have been proved right about the hideous Islamic extremists who those Washington inspired revolutions have bred.
It is impossible to conceive of one political act which could have unleashed such a deluge of anti Western aggression throughout the world than the attack on the Ukraine by the Washington/London/Berlin troika. With one foolish, historically ignorant extension of European Union corporatism and German expansion the foolish three have stirred up a world wide storm which is attacking every monetary, financial, economic, political and industrial interest of the industrial democracies.
Most western politicians never understood the true nature of the European Union so they ended up destroying 27 constitutions, parliaments and democracies, returned the map of Europe to about 1941 and caused 25 million unemployed, the bankruptcy of many nations and mass migrations of the unemployed. The same ignorance has today attacked Russia (a Christian country approaching some form of pluralism and integration into the capitalist democratic West) and turned it into an enemy with an incentive to embrace again the communist evils of the past.
An astonishing achievement!
