RUSSIA, THE EU AND THE UKRAINE – GERMAN EUROPE’S IMPERIAL WAR
Rodney Atkinson
“Keep in mind that, under the cover of information commotion, U.S. ships are entering the Black Sea, that is, near Ukraine. They are sending marines, and they have also begun to deploy more tanks in Europe”. General Lashov
So the bankrupt European Union, which has contributed so much to the financial collapse of the Ukraine and massively to planning and financing the overthrow of the Ukrainian Government (previously elected, in the words of the OSCE, in an “impressive display” of democracy) now poses as the peaceful, prosperous alternative to the Russian!
A Senior Russian General has rightly warned about the geopolitical crisis which Washington and Berlin have instituted in the Ukraine. So what is the economic and political background to this serious international crisis – so reminiscent of the illegal wars in Yugoslavia but, because it goes to the heart of the Russian sphere of influence, far more dangerous.
The Ukraine has suffered a big fall in economic production and financial stability as the US Government’s withdrawal of quantitative easing has hit emerging economies like Russia and the catastrophic Euro has bankrupted the Eurozone to which Ukraine exports. The EU Ukraine trade agreement – the predictable first step now familiar to us all of offering economic “help” today in return for complete constitutional surrender tomorrow – would have prevented Ukrainians travelling to the West (they have the fifth highest number of IT specialists in the world!) would have given EU goods access to Ukraine but prevented full access of agricultural goods from Ukraine’s superb farming potential to the EU.
On the other side Russia takes 75% of Ukraine’s industrial exports, has committed $15billion to finance the country’s sovereign debt and has sold gas at subsidised prices – only to see a western approved election of a Russian friendly Government overthrown. As the Eurozone has collapsed and China has retrenched Ukraine’s steel exports have halved in price and healthy growth has fallen from an average of 4.5% in 2010/2011 to 0% in 2013.
So the European Union, which has contributed so much to the financial collapse of the Ukraine and massively to planning and financing the overthrow of the Ukrainian Government (elected in the words of the OSCE in an “impressive display” of democracy) now poses as the peaceful prosperous alternative to the Russian!
A BRITISH EUROPE WOULD HAVE AVOIDED ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL EXTREMISM
As usual when a British or British Commonwealth observer analyses the politics of continental Europe – or historic Russia – there seems to be little alternative to the violent swing of the pendulum between authoritarian royalty or fascism on the one hand and totalitarian socialism on the other. When these choices within nation states are subsumed by supranational powers like Soviet Russia or corporatist/fascist Europe the extremes are even more pronounced – and even more difficult to solve.
But if the European Economic Community had remained a free association of free nation states, free Governments, democratic constitutions and countries openly and fairly trading with each other rather than a political constitutional construct of a “single market” and supranational government then expanding that essentially emancipating structure (see my book The Emancipated Society either on this site under publications or on Kindle) with the association of new members – like Ukraine, or even Russia or Turkey – would have been easy. Such a system would have offered both free trade and prosperity to other nations without attacking their (in Eastern Europe only recently re-established) democratic sovereignty.
UKRAINIAN TURKEYS VOTE FOR CHRISTMAS
As it is the aggressive constitutional juggernaut of the democratically rejected, economically collapsing and financially bankrupt European Union poses as a friend to the Ukraine only to demand control of its markets and the over throw of its sovereign constitution – which even the Russians have provided, despite the severe potential crisis for its Black Sea port in the Crimea. Few Ukrainians seem to understand how little is on offer for their country from the imperialist European Union but a few Oligarchs are more than willing to sell their own country for profitable access to the EU.
THE RUSSIAN VIEW
Since Obama’s Washington seems to have adopted the wilder excesses of the neo Con Right in its full support for German Europe’s “push to the East” (any day now we will hear about “Lebensraum” no doubt even though Europe’s population is shrinking dramatically!) we are facing a geopolitical crisis which should have been unleashed with the same imperialist coalition’s illegal wars in the Balkans! So here we have the words of a very senior Russian General. In an interview published Feb. 5 by km.ru, (http://www.km.ru/spetsproekty/2014/02/04/mezhdunarodnaya-politika/731440-chto-proiskhodit-na-ukraine-i-v-sirii-eto-za) Gen. Leonid Ivashov, the former foreign relations head of the Russian Ministry of Defense and current president of the Academy of Geopolitical Studies summed up the Russian view of events in the Ukraine: He is critical of his own Foreign Ministry – who do indeed seem to have been remarkably ineffective! On this occasion Russian accusations of fascist methods and politics is more than justified given the close association of the Ukrainian fascist party Swoboda with the German Neo nazis and with the German Foreign Minister Steinmeier – who is on record as saying that independent nations are a threat to peace. (see previous article on Freenations). To General Lashov’s words I have added my occasional comments in italics. I am grateful to Donald Hank of Aigles Forum for this translation.
“Apparently they [officials of the European Union and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry] have dedicated themselves, and continue to do so, to deeply and thoroughly studying the doctrine of Dr. Goebbels. . . They present everything backwards from reality. It is one of the formulas which Nazi propaganda employed most successfully: . . . They accuse the party that is defending itself, of aggression. (policemen were the first to be killed, often by marauding fascist gangs in Kiev) What is happening in Ukraine and Syria is a project of the West, a new type of war: in both places you see a clear anti-Russian approach, and as is well known, wars today begin with psychological and information warfare operations. . . (the propaganda and organisational methods employed by the US in the Arab Spring have been revealed in Kiev – see previous Freenations article) Kerry and Obama are encouraging in Kiev what they harshly repress in their own country. European leaders break up unauthorized demonstrations with hoses, throwing demonstrators in jail, while in the Ukrainian case they do the exact opposite, and on top of that they threaten Russia. Logically, this is part of information warfare. (It is remarkable how quickly and thoroughly the BBC reported from Kiev compared to its suppression of reports on riots and violence in Spain, Italy and Greece instigated by the Euro crisis)
“Keep in mind that, under the cover of information commotion, U.S. ships are entering the Black Sea, that is, near Ukraine. They are sending marines, and they have also begun to deploy more tanks in Europe. . . We see that on the heels of the disinformation operation a land-sea, and possibly air operation is being prepared. The scenario could be the following: drive Ukraine to the breaking point, blame Yanukovich and Russia for everything, to then say that NATO can’t simply sit by as a mere spectator, and then send its troops into to return order. Then a transitional government would be formed, as happened in Iraq and Kosovo, and NATO would take control of everything. Historical experience shows we have lived through similar situations. But before that they will need to justify the aggression with information warfare. . .
“They haven’t even taught [opposition leaders] Klitchko, Yatsenyuk and Tyahnybok to run a government efficiently. The main thing is for them to take power, and destroy the Ukrainian state.
What is happening in Ukraine and Syria – is a Western project, a new kind of war. And in both places there is an anti-Russian slant to the reporting, (especially on the BBC which nowadays, as in the 1930s, has abandonned its international socialism for the appeasement of European Catholic corporatism and fascism) and we know that today war begins with an information-psychological operation. That is how it was in August 2008. At that time, we lost in terms of information, and we are now losing because we are accustomed to respecting the opinions of others. I think our Foreign Ministry does not understand that this is a war, and that war has its own laws. You have to talk tough and present facts, do what they are doing, but with more sophistication.
It is clear that the Syrian opposition – is ordinary executors or junior commanders, while the staffs, and the Supreme Commander are located across the ocean and in Brussels. They make plans, perform the coordinating function, provide materiel and finance. This is true of both Syria and Ukraine. (In both theatres the UK, US and the EU support uncritically extreme fascist or Islamist groups bent on destroying democracy and Christianity while even Russian communists look on in amazement at this self destructive decadence)
Following the information operation in Ukraine, a land-sea operation is being prepared. And Kerry and Obama himself encouraged in Kiev what is severely curtailed in their homeland. European leaders use water cannons to disperse the slightest unauthorized demonstrations, and their members are imprisoned. But they hold the opposite position in the case of Ukraine, and even threaten Russia! Clearly, this is an information war.
Note that under cover of information hype American ships are entering the Black Sea basin, i.e., close to Ukraine, preparing Marines to arrive there, and besides, the Americans have begun to ship tanks to Europe. All this is public information, is well known and can be read in the media!
In April 2004, an agreement between Kiev and NATO was imposed on Ukraine whereby NATO troops can freely enter Ukrainian territory. So we see that following the information operation, a land-sea operation, and possibly an air operation, is being prepared. The scheme might look like this: bring the situation in Ukraine to extreme conditions in order to blame Yanukovych and Russia, and then say that NATO cannot tolerate this, whereupon they send in troops to restore order. They then set up a temporary administration, as in Iraq and Kosovo, and NATO members take control of everything. From historical experience, we know these things. But all this information is necessary to build a case for aggression. The West invested money, preparing political scientists, propagandists, and an aggressive nucleus (minority) learned how to attract the masses. But neither Klitschko nor Tyagniboka nor Yatsenyuk were taught how to effectively build a state. The main thing was for them to seize power and destroy Ukrainian statehood.” Ends.
It was inevitable that one day the supreme aggression of a Superstate built on the destruction of democratic nations, pursuing a suicidal internal economic policy with mass unemployment and social alienation would overplay its hand in imperial ambition. It is the very corporatist fascist structure of the European Union which makes the elimination of alternatives (be they trading options or democratic sovereignty) and therefore the conquest of neighbours inevitable. The arrogance of the EU and the ignorant posturing of the USA have now led us to that point.
